Educational and Adventure Trails

From trees to wine and healing herbs to "Schnapps", there are over 30 different educational and adventure trails at over 90 places throughout the Black Forest.
Here are just a few examples of the trails on offer, which are usually between three and six kilometres long.

From Altensteig a well-marked trail runs along the "Historic Mile", past half-timbered houses and the castle. Bad Dürrheim has the "Bird Watcher's Trail" (3 km) with 30 information boards explaining the appearance, distibution and habits of the various native birds that you can see and hear. You should also go on at least one of the four woodland trails on offer in Baiersbronn, the most densely wooded parish in the Black Forest. All in all, the Black Forest has a total of 20 woodland trail on which you can broaden your knowledge of pines, firs, spruces and decidous trees. In Freudenstadt you can uncover the secrets of the forest, preferably with a forester as your guide.
The "Forest Adventure Trail" at Hörnlesberg near Gutach im Breisgau combines education, a feast for the senses and an eco-rally. Although it is only three kilometres long, the 14 "Waldmännchen" (little forest men) can usually keep both young and old visitors occupied for a good three hours. Before enjoying a fine red wine from the award-winning red wine village of Waldulm, you should pay a visit to its "Red Wine Trail" (2 km). You will be astounded by the variety of native fruits on the Lossburg "Fruit Trail", whilst the "Insect Trail" (1,5 km) in Nagold is dedicated to the tiny creatures of this world.

The "European Schnapps Garden" at the Waldhotel Grüner Baum in Oberkirch-Ödsbach is only 250 metres long, but it contains all the trees and bushes that produce the fruit to make Schnapps.
In Schönau walkers are bombarded with ideas and poems along the "Philosopher's Trail", where time flies by and your body and mind are kept busy. The stuff of life is the focus of the "Water Trail" (2,5 km) with 16 information boards around Lake Titisee. With ideas for fun games for all the family.

Educational and adventure trails can be easily included as part of a day hike or are ideal if you want to learn some interesting facts whilst taking a leisurely stroll.
