Passing the “Herrenwieser See” and the “Badener Höhe” and crossing the ridge between the rivers Rhine and Murg the “Westweg” reaches the highest point of the northern Black Forest, the “Hornisgrinde”. The “Westweg” is accompanied by “Karseen”, lakes remaining from the ice age period, like the “Mummelsee” or the beautiful “Wildsee”. Towards the west you can enjoy the fascinating view over the plaines of the Rhine.
From the “Alexanderschanze” the “Westweg” runs over the ridge between the Wolftal and the Renchtal/Harmersbachtal and then leads down to the Kinzigtal arriving at Hausach. After a sharp rise, the “Westweg” follows (from the “Martinskapelle” until the “Kalte Herberge”) the European water shed between the Rhine and the Danube.
The deeply incised valleys in the west and the flat plateaus in the east create scenic contrasts. From the “Titisee”, the biggest natural lake of the Black Forest, the “Westweg” mounts to the highest summit of the Black Forest, called the “Feldberg”.
At the hotel “Feldbergerhof” the “Westweg” splits into a western and an eastern route. Until the “Belchen” the western path is one of the classical hiking routes in the mountains with great panoramic views. The “Blauen” is the last huge elevation before you cross the Kandertal downwards in direction of the Wiesental. The eastern route via “Herzogenhorn” and “Weißenbachsattel” follows the plateaus between the Wehratal and the Wiesental to the “Hohe Möhr”. Via the “Dinkelberg” with panoramic view and karst formations like the “Eichener See” the “Westweg” leads to the Rhine valley towards Inzlingen.
