Trails and Hiking
Today, with over 86 000 members in 242 local groups, the Black Forest Society is still synonymous with designated hiking trails and hiking experts. Approx. 23 000 km of hiking trails are marked, monitored and in some cases also maintained by more than 300 volunteer wardens. The trails and paths through deep ravines such as Wutach Gorge, which is sometimes almost alpine in tis conditions, require a lot of work throghout the year in order to ensure the highest levels of safety for hikers. Local groups offer their members and visitors a wide range of leisure activities from hiking to walking, cycling, mountain biking, skiing and canoeing. Many of the activities are run by trained and qualified hiking guides.
