Bike Crossing Schwarzwald

For hikers, the pleasure is to take a steady walk in the great outdoors, enjoying the sights, while for sporty mountain bikers the kick is the rapid transition from mountain to valley, the challenge of difficult terrain, the breathtaking descents and the muscle-sapping climbs.

But bikers, too, appreciate the open landscape, the view over the valleys and the relaxed pedalling on sunny heights. For these features, too, the Black Forest was repeatedly elected “Best MTB Region” in the south of Germany by readers of the magazine “Mountain BIKE”.

The 450 kilometres long “Bike Crossing Black Forest” route is certainly the highlight for adventurous mountain bikers. This fully sign-posted trail leads from Pforzheim in the north to Bad Säckingen at the Swiss frontier in the south, passing through the Black Forest crosswise. You can split it up into optional day-stages. Altogether, you have to overcome an altitude difference of 16,000 meters. A competent mountain biker should be able to complete the whole route in 7 to 8 days.

From Schönwald in the middle of the Black Forest and from Bad Säckingen at the Upper Rhine River (Oberhein) you will find signposted connecting routes passing Donaueschingen to the “Bike Crossing Schwäbische Alb” route. The result is an additional course of about 380 kilometres. Furthermore it is possible to include the 350 kilometres long “Bike Crossing Schwäbsiche Alb”, which was inaugurated in 2008, so that an almost 1000 kilometres long, uniformly signposted route is available for ambitious bikers, taking in the diverse and fascinating landscape of Germany’s south-west.
