The mountains of Feldberg, Schauinsland and Hornisgrinde and many more mountain peaks are waiting to be mastered by you.
The Black Forest features the highest peaks of Germany’s low mountain ranges. The mountain ranges can be as different and diversified as the way up to them: Either comfy with bus and train services, or quickly with a motorbike or your own car. You can even make your own ascent by bike.
The Feldberg Mountain
The highest peak in the Black Forest! In summer and winter, the Feldberg Mountain with its 1493 metres altitude offers a wealth of choice for people looking for revitalisation as well as for sportsmen, be it the nature protection area, a hiking paradise or its winter sports centre...Experience the diversity of the Feldberg Mountain.
The Belchen Mountain
At Belchen Mountain you can go on discovery tours and enjoy the beauty of the southern Black Forest nature park, the Naturpark Südschwarzwald. Coming here, you can complete a broad range of guided hiking tours within the national trail network, with highlights like sunrise tours to the Belchen Mountain or the so called Mephisto tour to Staufen – the city of Goethe’s Faust. Every tour promises to be a very special experience and there is also wine tasting and nature discovery trails to serve as pleasant diversions. In addition, there are weekly Nordic walking courses for beginners and advanced learners. All this takes place in a magical landscape with unique scenery – from the charming region of Markgräflerland with its vineyards across to the 1,414 metres high Belchen Mountain – there is something here to please everybody.
The Hornisgrinde Mountain
The Hornisgrinde Mountain is the highest peak in the northern Black Forest, with an altitude of 1,164 metres. The mountain is situated on the eastern edge of the flood plain of Rhine River, the Rheinebene. On days with good visibility you may even see the tower of the Minster in Straßburg/France from there.
The Schauinsland Mountain
Freiburg’s very own mountain, the Schauinsland stands 1,294 metres high and features beech trees shaped by the wind . On the western edge, the Schauinsland Mountain gondola, the Schauinslandbahn, climbs 746 metres over the course of 3,600 metres. The view from the gondola cabin reaches from the flood plain of Rhine River and the Kaiserstuhl low mountain range as far as the Vosges mountain range in France.
The Kandel Mountain
The 1,242 high Kandel Mountain is the highest mountain in the central Black Forest and is situated in the administrative district of Emmendingen, between Waldkirch and St. Peter. It provides a fantastic view from the Thomashütte, a lodge situated on a rock called Kleiner Kandelfels.
