Family friendly holiday destination

Germany’s south-western highlands received the “family friendly holiday destination” award. 20 out of 24 Family–holiday quality seals in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg were awarded to destinations in the Black Forest: Baiersbronn, Feldberg, Freiamt, Furtwangen, Grafenhausen, Lenzkirch, Lossburg, Ottenhöfen, Sasbachwalden, Seebach, Schluchsee, Schonach, Schönwald, St.Georgen, Titisee-Neustadt, Todtmoos, Todtnauberg, Unterkirnach and the adventure park Europa Park in Rust.

The seal of approval is “Leo Luschtig” (Funny Leo) and can only be achieved if the destination satisfies the complete range of needs and wishes of children. A house or a destination carrying this seal provides a secure outdoor playground, a separate indoor play area, family reductions and laundry facilities. Furthermore it offers a cot, a diaper changing table, bottle warmer, potty, and a baby bath tub for families with younger children.

The family holiday resorts adapt their entertainment packages to the seasonal conditions. For example, walks with lanterns and torches in the warm summer evenings, expeditions into the forest at dawn, adventure trips to old castles, a creative entertainment programme and art courses for children. In addition to this, the destinations offer walking trails suitable for pushchairs and suggestions for day-trips with little children. Furthermore babysitters are always available, so parents can enjoy their leisure time together.

Adventure swimming baths and thermal baths, cable cars, abandoned mines, and adventure and nature parks promise joy and entertainment for the whole family. Indigenous wildlife can be observed in its natural environment in the Steinwasen adventure park in Oberried near Freiburg. There is also a toboggan run and a 218 long metre long rope bridge to try. And the fairy tale museum in Baiersbronn proves that you do not have to be an adult to enjoy a trip to a museum.

The 85 hectares adventure park, Europa Park, located in Rust, attracts visitors from all over Europe and has more than 100 attractions and fascinating shows with fourteen different themes.

The family-friendly holiday resorts offer children and teenagers a big variety of entertainment possibilities: The Bungee Trampoline in Titisee, American Bowling in Freiburg, a Black Forest safari on quad bikes and a forest climbing park, more than enough to convince teenagers to spend their holidays in the Black Forest.

And what would the Black Forest be without its famous farms? Again and again they fascinate the young and old alike. Whoever decides to spend his holidays on a farm will automatically become a part of the farmer’s family during the stay. Especially for children, the experience of being able to get to know the animals on a farm is particularly exciting. But a farm stay can also be an experience for the older guests, who can help with the hay-baling, milking a cow or mucking out the stables.

More information on family-friendly holidays can be found in the Family Holidays brochure which can be ordered from Haus des Gastes, D- 78136 Schonach. Phone: +49 7722 9648119 or on the internet at www.familien-ferien.de.
