Long distance trails – more hiking possibilities than anywhere else

The three main long distance hiking trails are the Westweg, a hiking trail in the western Black Forest, the Mittelweg trail in the central Black Forest and the Ostweg, a hiking trail in the eastern Black Forest.

They all run from north to south. In addition, there are 14 other long-distance trails in the holiday region. As lateral or high trails they make the mountain range accessible, while as wine trails they open up the foothills. The east of the region is served by the Gäurandweg trail. The youngest trail in this group is the Schluchtensteig, inaugurated in 2008 and running through gorges and canyons in the southern Black Forest. With its 118 kilometres, it connects the seven deepest and most spectacular canyons with wonderful panoramic views.
Whether you want to pass your time in a beautiful landscape, search for silence or solitude, or to hike gregariously with friends or your family – enjoy one of Germany’s most beautiful holiday regions by exploring it on foot!

Themed hiking trails – what the forest has to tell

Is the Black Forest really black? Why are the trees in the swamps so small? Enter a world of experience by hiking. Would you like to reconstruct how the Black Forest farmers lived in the past centuries or get to know what the Hinterwälder cows are? Our regional theme hiking trails offer a great chance to explore the life of the Black Forest for both the younger and the older generation!

Relaxed hiking – your luggage is following you

The hiking trail network of the Black Forest is truly immense. Sixteen long-distance hiking trails pass through the idyllic and dramatic scenery of the peaks and valleys of the region. Eight north-south hiking trails are crossed by eight transverse trails. The experiences of these dream-like trails, that bring visitors so close to nature, are especially precious, whether hiked in partial sections, as a day tour without a backpack, or as a half-day short visit.
