Satellite Support
The new-generation hiking guides are out of this world. Satellite-based hiking is becoming increasingly popular. “Hiking without maps and compass” is now possible in the Black Forest in the following places: the holiday region of Ferienland with its villages of Schönwald, Schonach, St.Gerogen, Triberg and Furtwangen; the holiday region of Todtnauer Ferienland, Todtmoos, Enzklösterle, Villingen-Schwenningen, Baiersbronn, Schluchsee, Staufen, Freiburg Waldkirch, Wolfach and Bad Teinach-Zavelstein.
Geo-caching is an electronic form of a “treasure hunt” and involves finding hidden notes across several stops using a GPS device. When you have solved all the riddles and reached the goal by using the right coordinates, you will find a small treasure awaiting you as a reward. Those who want to experiment with orienteering via GPS will have every opportunity to do so during a Black Forest holiday. The palm-sized personal hiking guides even arouse the hiking spirits of cranky children. GPS devices for geo-caching can be borrowed from tourist information offices in the above named villages for a small fee.
